I&M announced its decision to waive the fees was announced on February 15, 2023, becoming the first bank in Kenya to do so. The move followed the reintroduction of the fee waiver by the Central Bank of Kenya in January 2023.

BBS Mall Chief Executive Officer Munir Ahmed noted that the neighbourhood holds many opportunities to do business.
"This mall and Eastleigh are big enough for everyone. If you cannot do business here, you need to relook your business strategies," he said, expressing confidence that the new I&M branch would be successful.
I&M intends to open three more branches in Nairobi, to attain a total of 29, by the end of this month. The new Eastleigh branch is its 42nd one in Kenya.
